INITIAL APPOINTMENT

Family Mediation Tayside provides a range of services to parents, children and other family members where they are affected by separation or divorce or already live apart.

In the first instance we offer each person a confidential, individual appointment so that we can tell you about the various services that are available. You can discuss your particular situation with the mediator so that you can make a decision about how we can help.

We will not contact your ex partner without your permission. If your ex partner has asked us to contact you, you will be offered an individual, confidential appointment so you can choose which, if any, of our services you want to use.

We will not discuss the content of your interview with anyone outside the service without your agreement. A clear exception to this is where a child is believed to be at risk.

Domestic abuse and child protection issues are very important to us. You will have the opportunity to discuss any concerns or issues that have arisen for you or your children. You can decide what the next safe and appropriate step is. The Mediation Service may also make its own decision not to proceed in certain cases.

If you have been told or advised by the Court, Child Welfare Hearing or your solicitor to use our service, you should phone to make an appointment for an initial meeting. As far as this Service is concerned the final decision is yours and your participation is entirely voluntary.
